Joke of the day: Lion and Graduate student

Was in sanskrit class yesterday and like always, it was filled with laughters.. sometimes due to PJ's (poor jokes or daridraparihAsH) and sometimes some funny incidences
This one was too good to miss

HM (the tall one not me) recited a sanskrit subhashit (means: good saying. A Maxim)
उद्यमेन हि सिद्ध्यन्ति कार्याणि न मनोरथैः
न हि सुप्तस्य सिंहस्य प्रविशन्ति मुखे मॄगाः


Meaning: Work (kAryANi) is possible only by effort (udyamena) and not by mere thought (manoratAYH). A deer/prey does not automatically fall into the mouth of lion ie even he, the king of jungle, also has to work for finding his prey.
A short story behind it: There was an lion in a jungle. Since he was old it was hard for him to hunt. One day when he was very hungry he thought of an idea. He thought I will just keep my mouth open and wait for the deer to come near it. When it comes I will eat it.
Guess what the deer didnt came and the lion died of hunger.

Here comes the fun part
One student was finding it quite hard to understand this subhashit and the story behind it (Note: Most of the conversation in class is in sakskrit). AT, an american student and who is currently writing his PhD thesis, thought of another way to explain.

He pulls out his laptop and explains the sleeping lion as "its like.. a grad student keeps his laptop open and waits.... (he walks his 2 fingers into the laptop) for thesis to walk by. Once it is there close the laptop. This does not work right?"

haha.. too good.
I think the PJ fever is catching on in all students!!
especially since the daridraparihAsH (poor joke in sanskrit) couple has returned from india.
